What size photography print should you hang above a sofa?
Measure the full arrangement, including frames and gaps. Around two-thirds of your sofa’s width is a useful styling starting point: a wide sofa may suit several prints together. Confirm outside frame dimensions before ordering.

Measure the furniture, then the artwork
Begin with the width of your sofa and the clear wall space above it. Include nearby lamps, windows and shelves in the composition. The artwork should feel connected to the furniture rather than positioned by the empty wall alone.
As a styling starting point, try an overall arrangement around two-thirds of the sofa’s width, then adjust by eye. For an 84-inch sofa, that means roughly 56 inches across. This is a proportion to experiment with, not a rule or a requirement to buy a single large print.
Compare the sizes that are actually available
Chaika Studios currently offers 12 × 16, 16 × 20 and 20 × 28 inch sizes. A 28-inch-wide print on its own will look restrained above a wide sofa. That can be intentional, especially with plenty of open wall around it. If you want more presence, consider a pair or a grouping.
For two pieces, add their outside frame widths and the gap between them. Two frames measuring 26 inches wide with a 4-inch gap would span 56 inches; this is a layout example, not a specification for our frames. Confirm the finished dimensions before ordering or planning mounting positions.
Test the arrangement at full size
Cut paper to the proposed outside frame dimensions and place it on the wall. Look at the arrangement from the sofa, from the doorway and while standing nearby. Check that it does not feel crowded by the ceiling or disconnected from the furniture.
Try a few heights. Leave comfortable clearance above the sofa back and consider how people use the seat. For a pair, test both the spacing and whether the two images feel balanced in light, colour and orientation.
Check the crop and finish
A 12 × 16 print has a different aspect ratio from a 16 × 20 or 20 × 28 print. The amount of sky or foreground visible can therefore change with size. Review the selected product preview rather than treating the sizes as identical enlargements.
Choose your photograph first, then confirm its current size and presentation options on the product page. An unframed print will also need space for whatever frame and mat you choose. If you want a coordinated mountain pair, start with one collection and compare the photographs side by side.
